The Chicago Bears come to town and there's a new island on the coast of Massachusetts. It's called Revis Island and it's a vacation spot for Brandon Marshall this week. I'm sure both Revis and Marshall are exited to face each other again. Revis as a Jet, has faced Marshall many times as a Dolphin.
This will be a magical matchup as two of the greatest players at their current position right now are facing each other. Marshall this season has 26 receptions for 301 yards and 5 TDs. Revis this season, his first as a Patriot, has 1 INT. Revis was brought into New England to be the lock down corner that Aquib Talib was before he left to Denver.
Revis has been doing his job lately and could see him lock down Marshall as well. Marshall is on a Bears O that has Jay Cutler as QB, and other WRs like Alshon Jeffery, and TE Martellus Bennette. Revis is on a Patriots D that has lost Jerod Mayo. Mayo was big for the run game so Matt Forte could have a big role in this game. But both the Bears O and the Patriots D are good and this could be a close game. Revis will have to do the same thing he has been doing for all receivers, man coverage. In the beginning of the year, he was doing a lot of zone, but when the Patriots put him in man coverage, he has been the Revis we have seen before and Revis Island is back. The only thing Revis can't do is let Marshall out run him or let Marshall out of his sight at all because Marshall can produce a lot for this Bears D. Revis has to go up against a big time receiver, and an old friend of his. They might be friends, but Revis will show no mercy. And Revis has always been very good in shutting people down. Revis loves a good competition, and Marshall could be a really good one for him. It won't be what Revis says that will be an impact to the game, it will be what he does in the game.
Revis and possibly Brandon Browner, signed from the offseason from Seattle, have big assignments as Browner has to get Jeffery. Hopefully Browner can also let Jeffery have fewer catches. The moves this year by the AFC East makes almost any team in the AFC East a threat. With the Patriots always finding a way to win, they will always make moves to try to go for a Superbowl run. A team can never have too many good corners, and the Patriots have just enough to have a good CB set. With the mind of Bill Belichick, he can drive this team to many victories. And Revis knows what is expected from him. Revis got into the NFL in 2007 and was drafted by the New York Jets in the first round, fourteenth overall. He played out of the University of Pittsburgh.
Before coming to New England, he was in Tampa Bay and got the nickname of “Revis Island.” Revis in his career has played 102 games, 2 sacks, 22 INT, and 3 TDs. Marshall got into the NFL in 2006, drafted by the Broncos in the fourth round. He played college football at the University of Central Florida. Before coming to the Bears, he was on the Miami Dolphins.
So the Patriots already know a bit about him. Marshall is very good at breaking and dodging tackles, so the Patriots will have to look out for that. Marshall has played in 130 games, getting 743 receptions for 9,399 yards and has 62 TDs but has 13 fumbles. In the past, Revis has picked off many people in the past, but Marshall could still get may catches for many yards. Marshall has done everything he could have done but sometimes, it's not enough because Revis takes over the receiver's route. He still might get many YAC.
Marshall has been very physical against Revis in the past, so it wouldn't be a surprise if he is physical once again for Revis steeling his thunder. Revis can do very well in the red zone and make sure Marshall will not score a TD, and has done this in the past. Revis has won most of the battles facing Marshall, especially in getting the INT. Marshall still does get catches, just not as many as he does when Revis arrives. Revis has won most of the battles against most receivers this season as well. I think the Patriots will win against the Bears 37-30. I think the Patriots will win the game by a TD. They are coming off of 3 wins in 12 days and now have a little more time to prepare for the Bears than the Bears preparing for the Patriots. Shane Vereen will have a big part in this game in running the ball and catching the ball. But Tom Brady could have a big day as well, maybe going for 400 yards and 2 touchdowns. The Patriots are 3-0 at home this season. Cutler is good on the road. Last week, they took a loss the the Miami Dolphins which ruined the momentum in Chicago. The Bears are 0-4 when Cutler throws at least 1 INT.
The Bears are 3-1 this season on the road. And one thing for Cutler is facing this very good Patriots passing D. All of this stuff is great to talk about in the offseason, but right now, it's time for Revis to shut down Marshall. Brandon Marshall and the whole Bears team should pack his bags to go on a vacation to Revis Island.
